Typical scenario

An EV battery discount was calculated from displayed range

If an EV valuation bases a battery discount on the difference between published range and the dashboard display, it may mix different indicators. The vehicle may have been inspected partly charged after cold parking, without available-capacity data or an explanation of how the range forecast was produced.

What needs to be clarified

Check the battery-condition adjustment, distinguish predicted distance from supported battery characteristics and establish how uncertainty in these inputs affects the vehicle valuation.

Materials to prepare

  • Valuation report with adjustment formula and sources
  • Dashboard photographs showing charge, temperature and inspection date
  • Battery diagnostic report explaining indicators and checking conditions

What to compare

Compare battery variant, units and inspection charge level. Separate predicted range, energy consumption and available capacity. Check diagnostic conditions and the market evidence supporting the adjustment; a range shortfall against the published figure does not automatically imply the same percentage loss in value.

Possible outcome of the analysis

The review may assess the adjustment with alternative calculations using supported inputs, identify missing battery characteristics and show the vehicle value's sensitivity to those inputs.

Limits of the conclusions

A dashboard forecast does not establish remaining battery life. The review does not involve opening the battery or confirm safety; any diagnostics are scoped separately for the model.
